The Unchartered Seas

Call me weak, call me mad, call me whatever you like: I'm not bad!

After delving into Firestorm Armada I decided to give The Unchartered Seas a fling. My good friend at Phoenix Forge is ordering me in my fix of rules and figures.

I've decided to start with the Shroud Mages and Bone Griffons. I really do like the look of the Shroud Mages vessels.

So stay tuned for more eye candy in the coming weeks.

Music Soundtracks

I recommend the following soundtracks from Movies.

Transformers
Transformers, Revenge of the Fallen
Torchwood, The Original Series
Iron Man
Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Mans Chest
Narnia:The Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe
Sherlock Holmes
Hellboy 2: The Golden Army

I'm currently hooked on Transformers soundtracks at present.

Wargods of Aegyptus

I'll be posting shortly pictures of my warbands for Wargods.

I don't understand why more people haven't taken to this game. Apart from the game being easy on the pocket book, its a brilliant little game system. You can play competitive tournament games or indulge yourself in campaign style games where your Harbinger can improve and gain additional powers.

The figures produced by Crocodile Games are well proportioned and clean castes. I really like the Sebeki, which are Crocodiles. I recommend WarPuppy Miniature and Hobby Games (www.warpuppy.com) for all your figure needs.

Crocodile Games also has a limited range of Hyborea and Olympus. There are Wendigo models which are really nice. The Olympus range has Spartans. Both of these are yet to get a rulebook so while I've bought some of the models and painted them up, they are a long term project waiting for competion.

Modern Wargaming

As most people know I'm never one to be tied down to any one thing.

With this in mind I had some vouchers for QBD that I had not used, and with this in hand went to have a look at what might catch my fancy.

I confess that it's hard to find modern military books that aren't all American focused. Yet I did find five books I thought worthy of my unused credit and extra cash.

BRITISH ORIENTATED
Target Basra, Mike Rossiter AUS$6.99. Royal Navy Marines, 40 & 42 Commando
Helmand, Afghanistan 3 Commando Brigade, Ewen Southby-Tailyour AUS$8.99. Royal Marine Commandos
An Ordinary Soldier, Doug Beattie MC, AUS$8.99. Royal Irish Regiment
Midnight in Some Burning Town, Christian Jennings AUS$7.99. British Special Forces

AMERICAN ORIENTATED
House to House:An Epic of Urban Warfare, David Bellavia AUS$8.99.

I'm hoping to get an understanding of these theatres of war. Not being a military man, or even one who can easily mix Regiment and Battalion up in the same sentence. I need to appreciate the atmosphere (not that I really need to) to be able to run Modern skirmish wargames.

I must recommend Eureka Miniatures for there nicely cast Afghans which I will be using initially. I'll need to look at Iraqi and Middle Eastern in the near future.

There seems to be a lot of 20mm figures out there, but I really love my 28mm+ figures.

Firestorm Armada

Having read the latest Miniature Wargames magazine available in the newsagents (Issue 321, January 2010) I found a review for The Uncharted Seas. The review gave it a good thumbs up, and as the review writer wrote "With GW's Man O War a decade out of production, The Uncharted Seas is not only the only game in town, it's also - as Lennon said - worthy "in it's own write".

So armed with this information I've taken the plunge and ordered Firestorm Armada from my good supplier Phoenix Forge. I should receive these next week and will then contemplate what fleets to consider. But then I may very well just order one of each of the races fleet boxes and go from there.

Too Fat Lardies

I am always on the lookout for new rules. I just can't seem to help myself when it comes to seeking out rules. Do I ever use even a 1/10th of them, well to be honest... no. I do like them from the point of view of pinching ideas for my own gaming inventions, or to add an additional depth to some games I already own.

Too Fat Lardies is by far one of the more cost effective rules publishers. I can buy the rulesets for 7GBP. So about AUS$11 or there abouts. I've just bought Bag the Hun a set of rules for WWII aerial combat. So I'm thinking of buying some 4'x4' board sections and painting hexes on them to such a size to accommodate 1/72 scale aircraft.

I bought tonight

Bag the Hun - WWII Aerial Combat Rules
Finest Hour - Battle of Britain Supplement for Bag the Hun
Kiss Me Hardy - Napoleonic Naval Rules
Bloody Burma - Campaign and Scenario Booklet for WWII Rules

Lots to read.

Steam Walker

I picked this up through L.D.P. the other day and had to put it together and paint it. This model will be the start of my "British Armoured Heavy Cavalry" or some such title that catches my fancy. I've one more gun type to arrive before I make my decision as to which way I'll go.

Outcasts - Viktoria, Bishop, Taelor & Johan

Rhule Warjack

Warmachine Mercenaries

I found these while cleaning up my Warmachine collection. It was in 2005 that I last played Warmachine! I can only vaguely remember who they are. I'm sure once I get organised I'll know who's who in the zoo!

Wandering Works of Wonder

Well with being somewhat off I've only been pottering around.

I started opening Warmachine. Shouldn't have done that, it's like Pandora Box except that all the worlds woe didn't escape, just my obsession.

So I'm expanding my Rhule army, as well as my Cygnar. Sadly all it seems to have done is highlighted what I'm needing to purchase to expand these armies. Heaven help me when I get to Cryx...

Been listening to the Percy Jackson novels. Finished the first book The Lightning Thief, and onto book 2.

Monday's Lot

Ack, not well. Doctors tomorrow. Hospital awaits. I'm now down to 129Kg and falling.

Pottered around as best I could. Attempted to tidy my work shop. No success there. Just moving one load of "crap" from one part of the room to the other. This is a constant theme with me. I need a bigger house! Or at least one where I can have lots and lots of bookcases.

Finished off a few more Malifaux figures, Essence of Power, Governor's Proxy, Renegade Steamfitter Johan, Bishop.

Completed two wreck counters for my Cygnar forces. Might have to purchase a few more though.

Decided that I prefer independent suppliers now for my GW purchases. The buggers don't support me (considering the obscene amounts of money I spend there) so I'll take my money and support and indie's owners bid for an Audi!

So it's off to bed now and rest.

Zepplin Truppen

The Rocketeers

The start of my Pulp Fiction figures

Chaos on Cronos Pt 2

As you can see the figures come with clear Bubbles to encase the head. The glare from the shots are annoying, but you get the idea. My second blister will be painted without the glass helmet.

Space "Persons" from Blue Moon

Chaos on Cronos

As you can see from the pictures I've posted the set of rules for these figures is called Chaos on Cronos. I must apologise for the poor pictures, I'm still getting about a 50/50 success rate with the shots.

I bought these figures to use with Space 1889, but I can see a use for these in my Pulp 50's games. I've bought the "artillery" pieces for each of the races and I like them. Real Flash Gordon style.

Last lot of Aliens from Blue Moon

Some more Aliens from Blue Moon

Aliens from Blue Moon Manufacturing

All Malifaux to date are now posted.

I've posted all the figures I've painted for Malifaux now.

I spent today fiddling with a few odds and ends on the table. Killjoy and the Desolation Engine have been completed along with Purifying Flame. The Govenor's Proxy is half done.

I'll post more when I get time.

Any one interested in Pulp City?

Check the link:

http://pulp-city.com/index.html

I'm thinking of another system. The figures don't look too bad and I'm thinking I may be able to use all those Heroclick figures for something.

Drop me a note or comment if you have any interest in this.

You easily spot the missed spots?

Since I've been uploading my pictures I have had the horrible realisation that I can spot all the missed spots on my models. So armed with the knowledge it's back to the paint table to rectify the errors.
